Great info.
Another trick is to put the phone in a sandwich bag or condom to protect if from water. If you have to use in in a sea you can without taking it out of its cacoon.
I own an Aquapac. It’s awesome. But sure, anything waterproof works.
You say that, even better than a VHF is a mobile. Surely, as all coastguards reccomend, a VHF is better when at sea as they can triangulate your position?
